What Is Amazon Prime Day?
Amazon Prime Day started in July of 2015 as a one-day sale event intended to celebrate the company’s 20th anniversary. It’s since morphed into an annual two-day affair in which Amazon offers major discounts across all of its product categories.
In addition to the 48-hour deals, you’ll also find a staggering number of Lightning Deals, which are only available for a very limited time—usually two to six hours. There are also pre-Prime Day and post-Prime Day deals in the weeks before and after the sale.
Do You Need To Be A Prime Member To Shop Prime Day Sales?
Yes—to take advantage of Prime Day sales, you have to be an Amazon Prime member. If you’ve never had Amazon Prime before, you can start with a 30-day free trial. After the trial is over, membership costs $119 for a full year or $13 per month. If you’re a college student, you can get a 6-month free trial followed by a discounted rate of $6.50 per month for as long as you’re in school.
If you’re not already a member, here’s everything you need to know about how to sign up in time for Prime Day. Be sure to read the article, because there are a variety of ways to get a Prime membership for free or at a discount.
As mentioned above, Prime Day 2021 started at 12 a.m. PDT on Monday, June 21 and runs through 11:59 p.m. PDT on Tuesday, June 22. Just like in past years, you’ll have exactly 48 hours to take advantage of the many site-wide discounts.
Some outlets have also reported that there may be two different Prime Dayevents this year, with a second one taking place in the fall. Amazon hasn’t addressed those claims yet, though, and we wouldn’t bank on the second one really happening.
How Does Prime Day Work?
Amazon kicked off Prime Day deals at midnight PDT on Monday, June 21, which is 3 a.m. EDT for those on the east coast. Many of the discounts will be available through midnight PDT on Tuesday, though Lightning Deals are the exception—they’re short-lived sales that are only available for a few hours (or until they sell out). As long as you’ve signed up for Amazon Prime, you can shop Prime Day deals and you’ll get free shipping on every order that you make during the 48-hour window, the same as usual.
What Is On Sale During Amazon Prime Day 2021?
Prime Day is a site-wide sale, so there are deals across all of Amazon’s product categories including tech, fashion, beauty and home. You can find discounts on Amazon devices as well as great deals on robot vacuums, headphones and kitchen appliances. It’s also a good time to stock up on household and beauty items, which you can also find at a discount.
Are There Prime Day Deals On Other Websites?
Technically, the official Amazon Prime Day deals are the ones that can be found on Amazon’s site during the 48-hour sale. That said, as Prime Day has grown in popularity, many retailers have started running competing sales during the same time period. In particular, you can find substantial markdowns at Walmart, Best Buy and Target.
Are Prime Day Deals Worth It?
It depends on what you’re shopping for. Prime Day features deep discounts on items like Amazon devices, robot vacuums, headphones and kitchen appliances. In many cases, don’t expect to see discounts this deep again until Black Friday or Cyber Monday. In those cases, Prime Day deals are definitely worth it.
On the other hand, some brands offer very small markdowns on their products just to be part of the sale. In that case, you’ll want to pass on clicking “add to cart.”
Can You Actually Save Money On Prime Day?
As you can probably guess, this also depends on what you buy. If you’re shopping for items like the aforementioned Amazon devices, robot vacuums, headphones and kitchen appliances, you’ll likely save a good amount of money on your Prime Day haul. That said, if you end up buying items that are only marked down by 5 to 10%, you’re not likely to walk away with huge savings, since those kind of markdowns can be found all year.
How To Save The Most Money On Prime Day
