BTS’s ‘Butter’ CD Single Scores The Fourth-Largest Sales Week Of All Time In Korea
BTS’s Butter, now a CD single (which is counted as an album in South Korea), has become a No. 1 album and song in the band’s home country on one set of charts, while on another roundup of important weekly rankings, the latest release from the biggest band in the world has earned a coveted spot in the history books.
According to Hanteo, one of the two closely-watched companies that releases music charts in South Korea, BTS’s Butter CD sold an incredible 1,975,364 copies in the first week it was available. That large of a sum is rarely seen, and it now stands as one of the most impressive of all time.
The organization revealed that Butter has earned the fourth-largest sales week in Hanteo history, and it almost became just the fourth title to rack up two million purchases in its first seven days of availability. Unsurprisingly, the three sets that accrued more impressive first-week sales sums are all by the same band.
The record for the greatest first-week sales total on the Hanteo charts still belongs to BTS’s Map of the Soul: 7, which was snapped up by an astounding 3.37 million fans in South Korea in just seven days. The title is the only project in the country’s history to pass three million purchases in a week.
BTS’s most recent Korean-language album Be comes in second place, as it sold 2.27 million copies in its opening week in December 2020. The short project is still one of the biggest titles of 2021, having sold hundreds of thousands of units in the first half of this year.
The septet’s Map of the Soul: Persona, an important global win for them when it was released in 2019, sold 2.13 million copies in the first seven days fans could pick up a copy at their local record shop in South Korea.
Butter was on track to earn one of the largest single-week debuts of all time in South Korea just hours after its release. The CD sold 1,711,870 copies in just the first day, which was already one of the most impressive single-week counts ever.
