Deluxe Italian Speaker Brand Launches New Bookshelf And Floorstanding Models

Sonus faber is one of my favorite loudspeaker manufacturers. I love the luxurious Italian styling and the attention to detail, even on the company’s entry-level Lumina range. Now Sonus faber has announced the expansion of the award-winning Lumina range with a new flagship floorstander and a powerful and compact standmount model.

Both new speakers are handmade in Italy and offer the classic Sonus faber sound quality at an affordable price that the Lumina range is renowned for. The new Lumina II and Lumina V A/V speakers can be used in a classic stereo setup or as part of a multichannel home cinema system. Both models offer greater power handling and are designed for use in larger spaces.

The front baffle of the new speakers is made from multiple layers of wood and can be ordered in one of three finishes: walnut, wengè with maple inlays, plus piano black. The cabinets are also finished with black leather, echoing the style of Sonus faber’s more expensive speakers.

The new Lumina II is the second standmount speaker in the company’s value collection and joins the smaller, multi-award-winning Lumina I bookshelf speaker which I reviewed at the start of the year. The new Lumina II features a larger cabinet volume plus a 150 mm midrange driver. The speaker is still compact enough to be used on a bookcase or shelving unit; alternatively, it can be placed on a stand and used as a stereo pair or as the rear channels for a home cinema system.

The Lumina V is the second floorstanding model in the range and sits alongside the existing Lumina III. As the new flagship model, the Lumina V has several key design elements including a lute-shaped mid/high internal chamber. This unique feature was created by Sonus faber and has been a main characteristic of the brand since it was set up in the 1990s. The chamber maximizes the structural rigidity of the cabinet and enhances the acoustic performance of the midrange while reducing standing waves.

For a range of A/V applications, including music, gaming and home cinema, the Lumina collection can be used with Sonus faber’s Gravis subwoofer models I, II and III, which can be ordered in matching finishes and materials.

The entire Lumina range comprises the Lumina I and Lumina II standmount models, the Lumina III and Lumina V floorstanders, plus the Lumina Center I, a centre channel speaker designed for home cinema installations.

Pricing and Availability: The two new Lumina models are available now and cost

Lumina II (standmount) $1,200 / £999 / €1,099 and the Lumina V (floorstander) will sell for $2,800 / £2,499 / 2,599€.
