Fortnite Cosmic Summer Celebration Start-Time, Challenges, Welcome Party Live Event And Everything You Need To Know
Summer is in full swing in Fortnite now that the Summer Solstice has come and gone. Three months of summertime stretch out before us, and for the next two weeks we can celebrate in Fortnite if it’s too hot to go outside (or if you’re unlucky enough to have smoke from a nearby forest fire polluting your air).
The two-week Cosmic Summer Celebration kicks off in Fortnite: Battle Royale Tuesday June 22nd and while we don’t know everything about the event, we do have some clues as to what to expect. Here’s everything you need to know.
The Cosmic Summer event kicks off at 6am PT / 9am ET Tuesday, June 22nd. New challenges and any LTMs should go live at this time. The festivities will largely take place at Believer Beach (formerly Sweaty Sands).
There will be no live event during the Cosmic Summer Celebration—a piece of information discovered on reddit:
This means that the Welcome Party is an ongoing event rather than a cinematic live event. What it will entail remains to be seen but the clues point to aliens of some sort possibly touching down at Coral Castle leading to some much-needed map changes.
Challenges and Rewards
I get the sneaking suspicion that alongside these potential map changes and some new challenges and rewards free for all players, the majority of this event will take place in the Item Shop. Maybe a new mode or two, definitely some cosmetic rewards, and then a whole bunch of skins to purchase that are all summer and beach-themed. I say this because we didn’t get a live event for the start of the season, we aren’t getting one for the summer celebration, and Epic Games has frankly been a little low-effort when it comes to just about everything lately, including its licensed crossover stuff. We don’t have any leaked challenges just yet but I’ll update this post once they leak or are released.
It’s unclear if Week 3 challenges will release tomorrow as well or on Thursday. We’ll see in the AM.
That’s about all we know for now. The event lasts 2 weeks and will hopefully add some fun LTMs, map changes and challenges to the game. I wouldn’t count on the one really, truly big change this game needs right now: An end to UFOs! If anything, we might be wise to expect even more flying saucers given Epic’s latest cryptic tweet:
Indeed, it sounds like the new POI might be the Mothership itself. Does this mean we’ll travel up into the air for a second UFO-based map up above? Will the mothership land on Coral Castle and change the northwest corner of the map entirely? Coral Castle is a completely worthless location so this makes sense and would be a very welcome change. It’s all speculation for now.
Here’s my latest Fortnite video on why Season 7 is yet another disappointment and the Chapter 2 map continues to fall short of Chapter 1’s far superior map:
