How To Activate ‘Genshin Impact’ Cross-Save On PlayStation, With An Unfortunate Catch
Genshin Impact has brought update 2.0 and Inazuma to the game, but also the ability to cross-save between PlayStation, PC and mobile for the first time. Previously, you could only have the same account on mobile and PC, but now PlayStation is in the mix, and those platforms no longer need to be walled-off from each other.
But there’s a catch.
Before I tell you how to do this, you should know up front that there’s currently a pretty massive flaw with the system. In order to allow cross-save between PlayStation and PC/mobile, you must never have used your miHoYo account login and played the game on PlayStation before. There’s no way to un-link an existing profile from PlayStation right now, and no ETA on when that might change. So if you’ve ever tried to play the game on PlayStation, you are out of luck and cross-save will not work.
I believe the one possible way around this is to create a separate user account on PlayStation and download the game fresh and do it that way, so you may want to try that as a last resort.
Otherwise, the process is relatively straightforward. On PlayStation you simply need to download the game and you will be treated to a prompt as soon as you turn it on that will ask you if you want to link a MiHoYo account email.
MORE FOR YOU
You click on that, and then you will be awkwardly taken to a web browser page within PlayStation that will have you log in to your MiHoYo account. I had two-factor authentication turned on, meaning all I did was put in my email, and then I was sent a code to that email I had 60 seconds to enter. Once I did that, I closed to browser, logged in, and voila, cross save had indeed been activated, and my current game from PC was on PlayStation.
One thing I noticed that did not carry over was any of my Genesis Crystals I had just bought to try and pull for Ayaka (RIP my free attempts, which got me Keqing). Those are separated out by platform, which is not uncommon to see. But if you convert those to Primogems straight away, they will be shared across platforms, and no, they haven’t disappeared if you go back to PC or mobile (Genesis Crystals are shared between PC and mobile).
Then, you’re done. You should be linked going forward. Again, it is extremely unfortunate that you cannot unlink a current PlayStation account, and I have to imagine that is something miHoYo will fix in the future, though it may be something they have to work out on Sony’s end. In short, I’m glad I never played it there to this point. So far, it looks gorgeous!
