Jeffrey Toobin Returns To CNN: ‘I Am Trying To Be The Kind Of Person People Can Trust Again’

Jeffrey Toobin returned to CNN Thursday, appearing on CNN Newsroom with Alisyn Camerota, who began the segment by saying “hello Jeffrey, it has been awhile.” It has. Toobin vanished from his role as the network’s chief legal analyst eight months ago, after he exposed himself on a Zoom call with colleagues from The New Yorker, which promptly fired him.

“I feel like we should address what’s happened in the months since we’ve seen you,” Camerota said, describing the Zoom incident and then asking Toobin, “to quote Jay Leno, ‘what the hell were you thinking?’”

Toobin said he was a “flawed human being who makes mistakes” and said his behavior was “deeply moronic and indefensible.” Of the Zoom call, Toobin said “I didn’t think other people could see me.”

Toobin said the months since being fired by The New Yorker after 27 years at the magazine had been “miserable,” and he said he was “trying to be a better person…I am trying to become the kind of person that people can trust again.”

MORE FOR YOU

CNN says Toobin will return to regular appearances as chief legal analyst—a decision Toobin said he was “incredibly grateful” for.

Camerota ended the on-air segment by saying “many of us have really missed having your legal analysis to guide us on our programs, so let me be the first to welcome you back.”
