House Speaker Nancy Pelosi told House Democrats a Benghazi-style select committee is a “leading option” to investigate the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol, top House Democrats told Forbes.
Assistant Speaker Katherine Clark told Forbes that Pelosi expressed to a group of leading Democrats “it is a leading option if we cannot get a vote in the Senate” in a closed-door meeting on Tuesday.
Pelosi previously told Democrats she saw four options: impaneling a single select committee, empowering a standing committee, continuing to have multiple probes to continue or allowing the Senate to vote again on an independent commission.
Pelosi will announce this week whether she plans to create a select committee, her spokesperson clarified on Twitter after several news outlets reported she privately announced her decision to create one.
